African Gold and Metal Worked Now Open

 

The Pearl is proud to present African Gold from the Glassell Collection: Selections from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston now on display in the Main Gallery and Metal Worked featuring the Houston Area Blacksmiths Association and the Houston Metal Arts Guild in the Rebecca Cole Gallery.  The exhibitions will be on display through November 2, 2008.

Blacksmithing Family Day

Saturday, September 13, 10am-5pm

Blacksmithing demonstration by the Houston Area Blacksmiths Association in the museum parking lot from 10am-4pm. African dance workshop at 11am and dance performance at 1pm, featuring Kuumba House, African Dance Company.  Art workshop in the Northgate Forest Conference Room all day. Free admission all day. Thursday, September 18 at 7:00pm

The Pearl welcomes Chelsea Dacus, Curatorial Assistant for the Glassell Collections at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston on September 18.  Ms. Dacus will present a lecture on the exhibition, African Gold from the Glassell Collection, in the Northgate Forest Conference Room.

Using Gold Leaf

Saturday, September 27, 9am-12pm

Learn how to incorporate gold leaf into your paintings. Students will receive three hours of instruction and materials to create an African-inspired landscape using acrylics and gold leaf.  Students will also learn to apply and seal gold leaf.
