Youth Art Council
The Youth Art Council (YAC) is a group of high school students from Northwest Houston who collaborate with the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts to create programs designed by teens, for teens. Members meet monthly to learn about museum operations, event planning, marketing, and fundraising while developing their own creative projects. Applications for the 2026–2027 school year open in June 2026.
Youth Art Exhibition Spring 2026
The purpose of the Youth Art Council's youth art exhibition, titled Kaleidoscopes: Unique Voices in the Modern World, is to curate an exhibition by teens with teen artwork, reinforcing the mission of
making the museum accessible to teenagers in our local area.
Theme
Kaleidoscopes: Unique Voices in the Modern World
With the rising prevalence of generative AI, humanity loses some of its unique characteristics: struggle, innovation, and connection. In today’s increasingly technological world, having a unique identity is more important than ever. But we are not one-dimensional beings—a kaleidoscope is “a constantly changing pattern or sequence of elements,” turning chaos into a unique display of beauty. How is your identity a kaleidoscope in a world that rejects individualism?
Eligibility
Artists must be currently living in Houston or the greater Houston area to participate. Artists must be a teenager in grades 9th through 12th and currently enrolled in public, private, or homeschool education.
Selection Criteria
The entries will be selected for exhibition according to the following criteria. Technique, personal expression, and organization, all in relation to this year’s exhibition prompt. Works will be selected by members of the 2025-2026 Youth Art Council.
Note: The museum and its contest representatives reserve the right to exclude any artwork from consideration in the contest. Any artwork disqualified for not meeting entry requirements – which include adherence to appropriate subject matter guidelines – will not complete the selection process. The decisions of the museum Youth Art Council are final as relating to all exhibition matters.
