History

Since opening to the public in March 2008, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts has established itself as a community resource bringing world-class art exhibitions and art education opportunities to the Northwest Houston community.

The Pearl is a non-collecting fine art museum, borrowing from public and private collections. The museum complements its exhibitions with an active schedule of programs and services. Founded on the community center concept, the Pearl reaches beyond traditional museums to enlighten, educate, and entertain.

The Pearl is housed in a former county library, leased to the museum and renovated through private funds, grants, and gifts. The Pearl is wholly supported through the community. Over 3,000 donors have given to the museum to date.

Who was Pearl Fincher?

Native Texan Pearl Lilley Fincher was born in 1935 in Evergreen, Texas. She moved to Spring, Texas in 1953, where she lived until her death in 2010. Much as her parents taught Pearl and her ten siblings, Pearl Fincher taught her six natural children, three stepchildren, and two “not-by-birth” children to be self-sufficient leaders in the community. Pearl truly lived by the philosophy “to whom much is given, much is required”, serving on the boards of the American Heart Association, The Tomball Regional Arts Committee, The Centrum Arts, and the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts.

One of Pearl Fincher’s proudest moments was attending the swearing-in ceremony of her daughter, Patricia Harless. The Honorable Patricia Harless is Texas State Representative of District 126, and a current member of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts Board of Directors.

To learn more about Pearl Fincher and her legacy, visit the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce and read their article “Pearl Fincher, Philanthropist and Texas Woman Who Made History.”

Free for All. Always.

Thanks to the generous support of our patrons, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts has never charged admission to our galleries and exhibits. The Pearl’s kind-hearted benefactors contribute at the Pearl’s various fundraising events – most notably the “Free for All” donation event at each annual Pearls of Art Gala –  to keep the Pearl free and open to the public year-round.

Doing business as the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, the Cypress Creek Fine Art Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. All donations to the Pearl are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
