Chronicles: Art in the Spirit of Storytelling

April 2 – May 10, 2025

Storytellers unravel worlds. From the marks of ancient palimpsests to the brush strokes of expressive paintings, visual art has remained a powerful medium for narration. It is human nature to chronicle our fantasies and realities, to express our existence. How do we narrate? Which legends are integral to our being? What is our story? This exhibit will uncover the spirit of young storytellers.

Chronicles: Art in the Spirit of Storytelling is a juried show with pieces selected by the Youth Art Council judged on theme, technique, personal expression, organization, integration, and artist statement.

The Youth Art Council (YAC) is a group of high school students from across Northwest Houston area that collaborate with the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Art’s education staff to develop experiences for museum visitors, with a focus on their fellow teens. During monthly meetings for one year council members are introduced to the inner workings of museums, meet with staff and advisors, learn skills in fundraising, marketing, event planning and create their own teen programming for local high schoolers to participate in. Under the advisement of museum staff, the council is encouraged to create programs for teens by teens. Council members also engage with their peers and professionals in the field to make their unique perspectives seen and heard.

2024-2025 Council Members:

Hannah Wylie-Young, Sam Ellis, Sofia Castro, Melinda Wu, Salome Serrano, Kaylee Kang, Carolina Crespo, Mariam Faruqi, Colton Holiday, Travis Duong, Miriam Khan, Sallie Stewart, Salma Quero, Rachel Truong, and Joanne Bach.

2025 Student Art Contest

April 2 – May 10, 2025

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to present the annual Student Art Contest winners who were recognized for their outstanding artistic achievements. The 2025 Student Art Contest accepted entries from 1st to 12th grade students in public, private, and home schools in the Northwest Houston area.

The contest entries were first adjudicated by the individual school districts and those finalists were submitted to the Pearl. Jurors then judged all entries according to four criteria: technique, personal expression, organization, and integration. This was a blind adjudication meaning no information about the artist was known to the panel of jurors. The jurors selected first, second, third place, honorable mention, and juried selections out of 250 entries for each division.
