ArtStart

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts’ Art Start program offers young children an engaging introduction to visual learning and creative expression. Through weekly sessions that combine story time with a related art activity, preschoolers build visual literacy, spark their imagination, and develop a deeper appreciation for art skills that support confidence and future academic success.

The program also nurtures social and emotional growth. With small classes capped at 10 children, participants receive individualized attention in a warm, supportive setting that encourages communication, cooperation, and respect. Family involvement is welcomed, giving parents and caregivers the chance to support their child’s creative development. Overall, Art Start provides a strong foundation for early learning, social connection, and creative growth.

● Program Overview

  • Skeleton’s persistent hiccups prevent him from polishing his bones (his arm jerks loose), carving a pumpkin, raking leaves, etc. What can he do to stop them? Make spooky scary skeletons after.

    October 7

  • One day, Color Monster wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad, and scared all at once! To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through color. Make a colorful color monster painting.

    October 14

  • Reader beware! This is the scariest book ever! Or so claims its melodramatic ghost narrator. Go ahead and turn the page, but don’t expect him to come with you. Make a cat silhouette after.

    October 21

  • It’s Halloween! Which means it’s time to dangle cobwebs and bats from the windows, put on costumes, and – most important of all – visit the pumpkin patch and pick out that perfect pumpkin! Make a Jack-o-Lantern tote.
