Nurra Yazici
Balloons That Stay, 2025
270 photographs, semi-transparent and photo paper
Born in Istanbul 1991, Nurra Yazici utilizes space as a source promising infinite probability for creation. Believing that photography is an artistic production oriented by inspiration just as writing and literature, she uses various technique such as multi exposure photography, pictorial photography, and graphics while focusing on the restorative aspect of art. Yazici has been living in Houston, TX since 2015 and producing artistic works since 2008.
Yazici’s installation called Balloons That Stay emerged as a symbol of thanksgiving and appreciation. The artist transformed the balloons she multiplied and painted to honor her son Ali’s heart donor every day and to thank him for bringing color to her life into a performance piece. The installation consists of colored balloons representing the number of days from April 6, 2025, the day of the heart transplant, to the present day.

Artist Statement:
Organic forms and ocean life, real and imagined, are ever present in my paintings and sculptures. Flowing movement, sweeping lines, and spontaneous organic forms in my artwork exhibit glimpses of my memories and inspirations from past experiences with the grace of nature.
3 words to describe your artwork: Ethereal, Free-flowing, Fantastical
How would you describe your artwork:
I am an Abstract Expressionist who works in acrylic, oil, and ceramics. I create in my home studio in Montgomery, Texas. I take walks along our neighborhood woods, around our lake, and I sit still to observe closely. I explore and examine botanical forms, and sometimes even take lake samples to view under the microscope. I am fascinated by shape, color, line, and form that exist all around us in nature. After in-depth observing of nature, I paint, draw, and sculpt from memory. I don’t usually attempt to replicate natural forms. I like to pull from memory and imagination to create new versions of the beautiful and fascinating things I have seen. Sometimes they result in bizarre, unique shapes, and make me think of what might have existed in ancient landscapes.

Barry is an artist and now retired architect and project manager for design and construction living in the Houston area. In retirement, he particularly enjoys traveling and painting. For him, painting is re-living, processing, and sometimes improving on the places that he has experienced and moments which have felt significant – scrapbooking on steroids.

Biography: Mark is that peculiar neighbor who, for nearly four decades, has spent his days painting watercolors in a shaded, delightfully cluttered studio at the back of his Houston property. His quietly imagined works have appeared in American Artist, Art Talk Magazine, and Southwest Art, even gracing its cover. A Texas A&M architecture graduate, his art has also been published in print and instructional books.
